One of eight firms to get recognition: Plusone Design and Construction has been honored by the National American Institute of Architects for its design of an affordable house in Valley Park. Plusone received the 2011 Small Project Practitioners Award during the AIA conference in New Orleans. The award went to eight architectural firms for work they did on projects that cost less than $500,000. Plusone has received local, state and regional AIA recognition for the Wells Street residence, called the Kiwi House because of its bright colors. The Kiwi House is a modern interpretation of the shotgun home, built for $98 a square foot with “off the rack” materials.
Honored for cigar packaging: Rockit Science, a Baton Rouge-based advertising agency, won first place at the American Design Awards for Package Design. Rockit was honored for its packaging for Molina Cigars. Rockit Science owns a share of Florida-based Molina Cigars.
