Party it up: Live After Five is hosting a reveal party from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at The Lyceum ballroom, 124 Third St., to unveil its spring lineup. A reveal video will air during WAFB-TV’s 6 p.m. newscast. Food and drinks will be served, and entertainment and a cash bar will be provided. The Live After Five outdoor concert series will return April 1. Eight shows are scheduled in the spring and eight more are planned in the fall, according to the event’s website. The concerts take place at The Crest at Galvez Plaza in the North Boulevard Town Square. Attendees are asked to RSVP to the party, which will also enter them into a raffle for prizes.
Community care: The Baton Rouge Area Foundation has called a news conference to release recommendations for a proposed behavioral health crisis center in East Baton Rouge Parish. The news conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at BRAF’s headquarters at 100 North St., ninth floor. BRAF hired Health Management Associates, an Atlanta-based health consulting firm, to recommend a comprehensive model for crisis care for people with substance abuse problems and mental illness. The goal is to divert people with mental illness to the appropriate care and out of jails, a news release says. HMA will provide details of a master plan for the treatment center.
Inspiring lives: Eight Louisiana high school students who overcame difficult obstacles to succeed academically have been chosen as recipients of the 2016 Louisiana Young Heroes Awards. The awards program, in its 21st year, celebrates the achievements of inspirational teens who excel in the classroom and serve their communities despite adversities. Louisiana Public Broadcasting and the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge sponsor the program, which is underwritten by CenturyLink and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana. This year’s recipients are: Dylan Alvarez, Sulphur High School; Alexis Bauer, Sam Houston High School; Peyton Cudd, Plainview High School; Madison Frugé, Avoyelles High School; Collin King, Ruston High School; Katie LeBlanc, Tara High School; Marisa Mercer, Atlanta High School; and George Mognhode, Baton Rouge International School. The winners and their families will be honored April 11 with a luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion and a banquet at the Renaissance Hotel. Read more about this year’s recipients.
