Will fund research into cooling electronic devices: Enervana Technologies, a tenant at LSU’s Louisiana Business & Technology Center, has won a $499,380 award from the National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research program. The money will be used for developing and commercializing a metal-based micro-channel heat exchanger, which would be used to cool electronic devices. Overheating computer chips is currently a major factor in limiting the speed of processors. Enervana, a company launched in 2008, is basing its revolutionary heat exchanger on a decade of research by a group led by Wen Jin Meng, a mechanical engineering professor at LSU.
Looking for the best: Nominations are now open for the 2011 Governor’s Technology Awards, presented by the Louisiana Technology Council and Louisiana Economic Development. The award honors companies and individuals. Categories are technology leader of the year, technology company of the year, university technology leader of the year, innovator of the year and rising star of the year.
