Sold!: The Louisiana Mineral and Energy Board says its January lease sale held on Wednesday in Baton Rouge netted $2.6 million. The board says it awarded 36 leases covering 5,436 acres out of 94 nominated tracts covering more than 114,412 acres. The awarded leases are in Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Concordia, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lafourche, Livingston, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Landry, St. Mary, Terrebonne and Vermilion parishes. So far in the fiscal year that began in July 2014 the board has netted $7.7 million through the monthly lease sales. In the fiscal year that ended last June 30, total lease sales generated $18.3 million.
Listen up: Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar announced today it will launch a new smartphone app on Saturday for its four restaurants in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Lafayette that will allow patrons to listen in to the audio feed of any of the more than 100 TVs at each of the locations. The free app was created by Singapore-based Tunity, and it allows users to point a smartphone at any TV in the room and immediately receive the audio feed on their phone. “We think Tunity is a game-changer and we’re proud that Walk-On’s was selected to be the exclusive restaurant to offer it to our guests,” Walk-On’s Enterprises founder and co-owner Brandon Landry says in a news release.
Pink slips: Houston-based Halliburton confirmed today to The Advertiser that it has made at least some layoffs in Lafayette. “The company has made workforce reductions in Houston and minimal workforce reductions in Lafayette,” Halliburton spokesperson Chevalier Mayes says in response to emailed questions from the Lafayette newspaper. “While any reduction is difficult, we believe they are necessary to work through challenging market conditions.” Halliburton said Tuesday that it had made layoffs in Houston, but declined to say how many jobs were lost there. The Advertiser asked how many layoffs occurred in Lafayette, but Mayes did not address that query in the company’s response. Read the full story.
