In the bank: More than a dozen homeless housing and service programs in Baton Rouge are among 182 programs across Louisiana that will receive a share of $31.6 million from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development’s Continuum of Care competitive grant program this fiscal year. HUD announced the grant awards today, saying the Louisiana allocations mark an increase of $938,872 over grants to the state last year, and are a part of an estimated $1.8 billion that will be spent across the country to fight homelessness. Adios, amigos: Food and agriculture entrepreneurs have returned to their homes in Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru after spending two weeks in Baton Rouge and the LSU AgCenter as participants in La. Idea, a mentoring program that encourages economic development in Latin America and is financed by the U.S. Agency for International Development. LSU’s Louisiana Business and Technology Center coordinated the visit, which included meetings with local organizations and workshops on how to do business with American companies. Three months of virtual training now will follow the Latin American entrepreneurs’ stay at LSU.
Headed to the hall: The Scott family of Alexandria is taking its place among legends of Louisiana politics as family members are posthumously given special recognition by the Louisiana Political Museum in Winnfield. The Town Talk reports the museum will honor the family—which included federal Judge Nauman S. Scott II and his son, state Rep. John W. “Jock” Scott—with the Political Family of Officeholders’ Award on Feb. 7 during the Political Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Read the full story.
