New face for civil service board: Gov. Bobby Jindal announced the appointment of Dr. Sidney Tobias Jr. of New Orleans to the State Civil Service Commission. Tobias is the Owner of Tobias Family Dentistry and is the pastor at Hopeful Triumph Baptist Church. Tobias was nominated by the president of Dillard University to serve as a representative of the 3rd Congressional District, as required by statute. The State Civil Service Commission serves as an impartial review board that enacts and adjudicates Civil Service Rules to regulate state personnel activities, and hears appeals from state employees and agencies. According to statute, the commission comprises seven members, including an employee representative elected by fellow state employees. The remaining six members are gubernatorial appointments selected from nominations submitted by the presidents of the state’s major private universities. One member must reside in each congressional district.
Fore Tide: Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne is offering golfers in Alabama a chance to win free rounds of golf at Louisiana’s Audubon Golf Trail courses if the Crimson Tide is victorious in the BCS championship game. Beginning Jan. 2, television ads will run on cable networks throughout Alabama, in which Dardenne will encourage golfing enthusiasts to visit www.LouisianaTravel.com and register for a chance to win one of 100 prizes, each comprising two rounds of golf at Audubon Golf Trail courses. The ads, funded entirely by a grant from oil grant BP, also show Dardenne praising the top two football teams in the country, predicting a Tiger victory and extolling the Audubon Golf Trail and Alabama’s similar Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Alabama residents can begin registering Jan. 2 for the Championship Challenge on the website, which includes all applicable rules and conditions.
