Down the road: Beginning Oct. 31, Greyhound will expand it’s premium nonstop service between major cities to Baton Rouge and New Orleans, in addition to five other new markets across the country. Greyhound Express was launched two years ago and has since expanded to nearly 80 markets, the company says. Baton Rouge and New Orleans will be a part of a route that includes service from Atlanta to Houston, via Montgomery, Ala.; Birmingham, Ala.; Mobile, Ala.; and Beaumont, Texas. Fare, schedule and ticket information is available online here.
New beginnings: If you want to check out the city-parish’s new Public Works and Planning Center, located in the renovated site formerly home to Baton Rouge Junior High School at 1100 Laurel Street, you’ll get your chance on Tuesday following a 10 a.m. ribbon cutting event to mark the center’s opening. More than 150 city-parish employees will work at the center, which will also serve as a “one stop shop for permitting and development needs,” city officials say. The newly renovated facility includes more than $1.7 million in federally funded energy efficiency upgrades, helping it to meet the requirements to become the first LEED-certified municipal building in the parish.
Kipnotized: FuturePAC, BRAC’s the political action committee, and the Baton Rouge Association of Firefighters both announced their endorsement of two-term incumbent Mayor Kip Holden for re-election in the Nov. 6 election. Daily Report is compiling a list of endorsements for candidates in the East Baton Rouge Parish mayoral, Public Service Commission District 2 and Louisiana Supreme Court 5th District races. Check it out here, and if your association or organization has an endorsement in one of these races you’d like to share, please email it to ssanoski@businessreport.com.
