Friendly gesture: Gov. John Bel Edwards signed an executive order Tuesday that prohibits the state from contracting with any company that participates in a boycott of Israel. In a statement, the governor says that Israel is our country’s closest ally in the Middle East, adding the country and Louisiana have both benefited from the alliance. Efforts to boycott Israel undermines the longstanding relationship, he says. Louisiana is the 25th state in the country to have such a policy on the books.

Opening soon: Chick-fil-A will open a new restaurant at Burbank Drive and Ben Hur Road next Thursday, bringing about 85 new jobs, according to a news release. It’s the second Chick-fil-A franchise to open in Baton Rouge this year, with the other being at LSU. The first 100 people to enter the restaurant when it opens next week will win one year of weekly Chick-fil-A sandwich meals.

Sky high: The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport announced Tuesday that a record-breaking 1.2 million passengers traveled through the airport in March. It’s the highest number of passengers ever served in a single month, breaking the previous record from May 2017 by more than 100,000. A large portion of the increase is because of the growing number of Spirit Airlines flights at the airport. Spirit doubled the number of flights to the city in the last year, launching tracks to eight more destinations from New Orleans.
