Shuttered: Gaudet Bros. salon is shutting down after more than two years at its Mid City location. Owner Micah Nickens sent an email to customers today announcing the shop’s last day will be July 26. “Life is leading us all in different directions, and we’re excited to follow it,” Nickens says in the email. Nickens is moving to a new barber shop in New Orleans called The Parker. Unclear is what prompted the move or what will happen to the Gaudet Bros. location planned for the first floor of downtown’s Commerce Building, next to Magpie Cafe. Before moving to Mid City, Gaudet Bros. operated a Garden District location.

A closer look: LSU researchers have been awarded funding from the National Academies of Sciences’ Gulf Research Program and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for projects that aim to enhance the resilience of Gulf Coast communities. A multidisciplinary research team is working on a project to improve understanding of inland-coastal environmental conditions and vulnerabilities. Their findings will be put into practice through partnerships with local architects, engineers, landscape architects, planners, policymakers and community members. Another project team aims to improve resilience and mental health outcomes in six south Louisiana communities vulnerable to poor health and the impacts of disasters. LSU says projects received roughly $2.9 million and $2.5 million, respectively.

Rocked: Shares of Chipotle Mexican Grill plunged 6% today after reports of customers becoming ill after eating at a Chipotle restaurant outside of Washington D.C. The Associated Press reports the chain shut down a location in Sterling, Virginia, on Monday after becoming aware of a “small number” of reported illnesses. It plans to reopen the restaurant today after a “complete sanitization.” Chipotle, which has a location at State Street near LSU, has been recovering from past food scares which included an E. coli outbreak.
