Backing incumbents: FuturePAC, the political action committee of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, is endorsing Livingston Parish President Mike Grimmer and Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez in their reelection bids. “Presidents Grimmer and Martinez have shown a commitment to the business community and will continue to lead their respective parishes in the right direction,” says Pat Felder, chair of the FuturePAC board of directors. “Having a solid understanding of the importance of economic development throughout the area is crucial. The name game: Thomas Wilson Ragusa Uffman & Co., an accounting firm located in Baton Rouge since 1948, has changes its name to TWRU, CPAs and Financial Advisors. The firm, which also recently opened a new annex and training facility at 733 East Airport Avenue, says its focus on assisting families and business clients will not change.
Engineering success: The National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering is awarding Scotlandville Magnet High School $7,000 in funding to support the school’s Academy of Engineering Program. Support for the AOE program is made possible by a $150,000 contribution from AT&T to NACME. The Scotlandville school is one of just 10 across the country selected for this support, because of its commitment to enhance learning for minority students on the pathway to higher education and science, technology, engineering and math careers.
