Clinton clan: Former President Bill Clinton will stump for his wife and presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton in Baton Rouge today, and will be in New Orleans Friday ahead of Louisiana’s presidential primary Saturday. The Baton Rouge event will take place at 6 p.m. at LiUNA Local 99, 1233 Government St. Doors will open at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Former Secretary of State Clinton leads the Democratic primary race for 2016 following wins in several states on Super Tuesday. Meanwhile, WBRZ-TV reports Republican hopeful Marco Rubio has canceled a scheduled appearance in Baton Rouge that was to take place Friday.
New duties: Mike Matthis has joined Investar Bank as a senior commercial relationship manager and senior vice president, the Baton Rouge-based bank announced today. Matthis, of Baton Rouge, will be responsible for developing deposit and commercial loan relationships in the Capital Region. He also is charged with growing the bank’s commercial loan portfolio and broadening Investar’s commercial product offerings. Matthis has more than 15 years of banking experience and previously worked as a commercial relationship manager for Whitney Bank.
Talk back: The public is being invited to deliberate Louisiana’s budget crisis during a panel discussion hosted by the LSU Manship School’s Reilly Center for Media & Public Affairs and WWNO New Orleans Public Radio. Titled “Solve the Budget,” the discussion will be at 5:30 p.m. March 7 in the LSU Journalism Building’s Holliday Forum. The discussion will focus on the current budget shortfall. The panel will include students, journalists, representatives from the Louisiana Budget Project, former state budget directors and LSU faculty. Get more information.
