IFC acquires locally shot comedy: Flypaper, a comedy about a bank heist gone wrong that was shot in Baton Rouge last year, has been acquired by IFC Films. IFC will release the movie, starring Patrick Dempsey and Ashley Judd, in theaters and through video-on-demand services. No release date has been announced. This is the second locally shot movie that IFC has picked up recently. In January the company acquired The Ledge, a thriller starring Liv Tyler, Terrence Howard and Charlie Hunnam.
Japanese disaster led to shutdown: General Motors will resume production Monday at its Shreveport assembly plant after a weeklong shutdown. Doug Ebey, head of the United Auto Workers local at the plant, says the 800 employees will resume their normal four-day workweek. The plant operates one 10-hour shift per production day. GM makes the GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado small pickups in Shreveport. GM shut down the plant this week, citing a lack of parts because of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
