New player in town: The new Firehouse Subs near the Bass Pro Shops in Denham Springs will open on Dec. 7, the company announced today. The restaurant, located at 121 Bass Pro Blvd., Suite G, is the second Firehouse location for local owner Patrick Lee. The Denham Springs location features a mural of Denham Springs firefighters enjoying lunch with LSU mascot Mike the Tiger in Mike’s Den near Tiger Stadium. Firefighter memorabilia also adorns the restaurant’s interior. Firehouse Subs is a national chain founded by two brothers who were firefighters and has more than 930 restaurants in 43 states.

Still in the ground: Scuttled projects by major oil companies trying to be fiscally responsible during the latest drop in oil prices could equate to about 125 billion barrels of oil still underground over the next five years, according to a new report. FuelFix.com reports that investment bank Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co., found the 150 projects that never got off the ground could have major implications going forward. “By not sanctioning projects today, you’re putting a hole in production in 2017, 2018 and 2019—potentially a big hole,” says David Pursell, head of macro research at Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. Things to come: The Federal Reserve says the U.S. economy grew at a modest pace this fall, lifted by higher consumer spending and more home sales and construction, The Associated Press reports. The Fed said Wednesday in its latest snapshot of the economy that nine of its 12 regional banks reported growth was modest or moderate from early October through mid-November. The report, known as the Beige Book, is released eight times a year and consists of anecdotal reports from businesses in each of the 12 districts. It will be used for discussion when the central bank next meets Dec. 15-16. Fed officials at that meeting are widely expected to raise interest rates for the first time in nine years.
