Done deal: A roughly 1.2-acre property at 6500 Airline Highway on which a Family Dollar store is located has been purchased for $1,880,000 by a New York-based limited liability company called FAMD Baton Rouge. The seller, according to land records, was 3D Boothandle TX LLC of Augusta, Georgia, which develops stores for Family Dollar and purchased the tract, then vacant, in February for $310,000.

Grain by grain: Excessive rainfall in south Louisiana earlier this year and hot temperatures in the north curtailed the rice crop for many farmers, according to the LSU AgCenter. And although there was excellent weather for the harvest, the first crop marked a decline from the exceptional harvests of the past two years, LSU AgCenter experts say. The second crop, however, was “exceptionally good,” they say. “Most everybody I’ve talked to is pleased with the second crop yields,” says Steve Linscombe, director of the LSU AgCenter Rice Research Station. The LSU AgCenter has the full story.

‘Tis the season: Gov. Bobby Jindal and his wife have donated nearly 300 pounds of food to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank for the holidays. The food was collected from guests who were asked to bring nonperishable goods when they visited the governor’s mansion. In a statement Tuesday, first lady Supriya Jindal thanked those who donated and encouraged others to give food, money or time to their local food banks during the holiday season. Jindal, who is term-limited, leaves office Jan. 11, though his family will move out of the governor’s mansion a bit earlier than his last day in office. The Jindals recently closed on their purchase of a home in University Club for $817,500.
