A nice gift: ExxonMobil donated $1.5 million to the Capital Area United Way’s 2010 fund-raising campaign. Of that total, $895,000 came from ExxonMobil’s Baton Rouge Complex, while corporate donations and contributions from the ExxonMobil Plastics and Polyolefins Plant made up the rest. In honor of the ExxonMobil donation, CAUW is giving 150 children’s books to Capital Area Family Violence Intervention Center.
Back in business: A Keithville-based custom cabinetry and millwork company is bringing new life to a shuttered 19-acre Shreveport facility that once served as an outlet mall. PJ Works has bought the facility on Shreveport’s Greenwood Road and has already started construction, with plans to use 163,000 square feet and lease out the rest. PJ Works’ general manager, Brad Beardsley, told The (Shreveport) Times the company needed to expand because it will begin producing a new product called Envirawood, a wood-grain veneer used as an alternative to wood. PJ’s current Keithville facility is about 20,000 square feet. The company now employs about 26 people but expects to have 50 employees total when the expansion is done.
