On board: Gov. John Bel Edwards has appointed Mary Leach Werner, vice president of The Sweet Lake Land & Oil Co., to replace Scott Angelle on the LSU Board of Supervisors. Werner, whose background is in educational strategic planning, says she’s humbled and honored to accept the appointment and looks forward to working with members of the board. In addition to her job at The Sweet Lake Land & Oil Co., Werner serves as vice president and director of The North American Land Co. and director of CKX Lands Inc. She will be sworn in at the LSU Board of Supervisor’s June 23 meeting. Angelle resigned the seat on the board and his post on the Louisiana Public Service Commission to accept a position in Washington D.C. with President Donald Trump’s administration.

FuelFix.com reports the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement announced Friday it would now allow 12 months of inactivity, up from six months, before suspending leases in federal waters. BSEE Director Scott Angelle says the additional time is meant to give companies doing business on the Outer Continental Shelf planning flexibility, which would help them increase cost efficiencies, create more jobs and maximize economic benefits. Regulators maintain the rule in order to prevent oil and gas companies from sitting on leases they have no intention to drill. Read the full story.
Seeking a seventh: For the 18th time in program history, the LSU baseball team is heading back to Omaha for the College World Series. LSU scored six runs in the fifth inning to break open a close game and complete a two-game NCAA Super Regional sweep of Mississippi State, winning 12-4 early Monday morning at Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers—who have won the College World Series six times in its history—will take a 16-game winning streak into this year’s contest. As the No. 4 national seed, LSU will now face Florida State in its CWS opener on either Saturday or Sunday. The winner of the Tigers and Seminoles will face either No. 1 Oregon State or Cal State Fullerton. LSU Athletics has more details.
