Money will be used to buy property, construct building: Fletcher Technical Community College in Houma is getting $2.7 million to expand. The college plans to use the money to acquire about 38 acres of land and build an academic and administrative building. State officials say the college is now at full capacity and had its largest enrollment in fall 2010. Fletcher is a two-year public community college that was established in 1951 on land donated by the Terrebonne Parish School Board. As a result of hurricanes Gustav and Ike in 2008, four buildings at Fletcher sustained damages of nearly $1 million. The project is being funded by federal money allocated to Louisiana for recovery from the 2008 storms.
