Don’t wait: Early registration for the 10th Annual Louisiana Smart Growth Summit, at $100 for a one-day ticket and $125 for a two-day ticket, ends on Wednesday. Beginning Thursday, all tickets for the summit will be $150. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx will deliver the keynote address at this year’s Smart Growth Summit, which will be held at the Manship Theatre in downtown Baton Rouge on Nov. 3-4. The summit annually brings together a wide range of local, national and international experts who will discuss issues such as transportation, real estate and community resiliency in the wake of major disasters. Opportunity knocks: The business community is invited to an informational meeting Thursday at LSU to learn about collaboration opportunities with university researchers to develop products and processes that benefit society. The meeting will detail the National Science Foundation’s Innovation Corps grant program, which offers up to a $50,000 grant for public-private collaboration projects. The LSU Office of Innovation & Technology Commercialization, along with panelists from LSU and Rice University, will provide information on how to create a competitive grant proposal. The meeting will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the LSU Hill Memorial LIbrary. RSVP to attend.

Back to basics: Due to JPMorgan Chase eliminating its debit card services, taxpayers will no longer be able to choose the MyRefund Debit Card as an option to receive their tax refund from the Louisiana Department of Revenue, effective Friday, the department announced this morning. Taxpayers will continue to have the option of receiving their tax refund through direct deposit or by a paper check. Any refunds approved and processed after Friday for which taxpayers have requested a MyRefund Debit Card will default to a paper check and will be mailed to the taxpayer’s address on file. Existing MyRefund Debit Card holders with funds currently available on their cards will still be able to use them after Friday, LDR says.
