Recognized as a legend: Jeanette Eisworth, manager of Don’s Seafood & Steak House on Airline Highway, has been presented with a Restaurant Legends Award from the Louisiana Restaurant Association. The award goes to people who have spent 20 years or more at one foodservice establishment. Eisworth has been at Don’s since 1970. “Jeanette Eisworth is an indispensable part of our business,” says Marlyn Moore, secretary/treasurer of Don’s Seafood & Steak House Inc. “I have always said that Jeanette has good instincts. She intrinsically knows the right thing to do. The fact that she is such a dependable and hard worker makes her a terrific example for our other employees.”

Sweet news: Children and adolescents who eat candy tend to weigh less than those children who avoid sweets, according to a study by an LSU researcher. Carol E. O’Neil, an alumni professor of human nutrition and food, says the study findings aren’t “a hall pass to overindulge.” O’Neil, who published her findings in Food & Nutrition Research says candy is a special treat that should be enjoyed in moderation. She says the study findings show that boys and girls who get candy learn how to balance the treats as part of their diet. O’Neil’s research was partially supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Confectioners Association.
