Covington native cites personal reasons: Matt Derenbecker, who started 16 games for the LSU men’s basketball team last season, is leaving school for personal reasons. Derenbecker announced the decision today, saying he decided to leave school after talking to his family and the LSU coaching staff. Derenbecker, a native of Covington, averaged 6.5 points last season, while playing in 32 games. He’s the second Tiger to leave the team this summer. Last month Garrett Green, a forward who also started half of the games for the team, left the program and announced plans to transfer to another school.
