Name game: Gonzales-based Davies Engineering Inc. has changed its name to Excel Engineering Inc. The change is intended to align the engineering business unit with its parent company’s corporate brand, the company says. Founded in Metairie in 1971, the firm provides industrial engineering services for industries including petrochemical, power, water treatment, alternative fuels, food and manufacturing. The Excel Group, which specializes in industrial engineering and related sectors both nationally and internationally, acquired Davies in 2008.

Keeping tabs: The Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools has launched an online tool aimed at increasing the quality of Louisiana’s charter schools by raising public awareness of school and student performance. Called Charter Discovery, the site “aims to become the premier destination for in-depth performance and demographic information on charter schools statewide,” says LAPCS, as well as “combat the circulation of misinformation.” Check it out here. LAPCS will be hosting two webinars to show people how to most effectively navigate Charter Discovery. The first will be held on Jan. 19 at noon; an evening webinar will be hosted at 5:00 p.m. on Jan. 23.
