Makes up for rescheduled trip: Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne is traveling to New York this week to promote the Louisiana’s tourism efforts. Dardenne’s office says he will be in the city today and Tuesday. Among his meetings, he’ll be doing a series of media interviews, hoping to get coverage for the state’s travel opportunities. He’ll also be participating in a reception to promote Louisiana food. Tourism is a $9 billion industry in Louisiana. Dardenne says the state’s image has taken a hit since the Gulf oil spill, and he aims to discuss the safety of Louisiana’s seafood and the activities available to tourists around the state. A similar trip was canceled in January because of weather conditions.
Looking for deals: A new survey shows 74% of shoppers say rising prices could cause them to slow their spending in the next few months. The Deloitte survey of more than 1,000 adults found that 60% of people are searching more online to get the best products or prices. One of the reasons for this may be continued concerns about the economy; 43% say the U.S. is still in a recession.
