Now open: Jet Capital, a Dallas-based online financial services provider, is expanding into the Baton Rouge market. Jet’s entry into Baton Rouge is part of the latest phase of the firm’s nationwide rollout, the company says in a news release. When completed, Jet Capital will be able to offer its small business funding solutions to businesses throughout Louisiana and the U.S. Jet says its leading proprietary technology and analytics-driven platform allow it to provide small business loans in as little as 24 hours.
No saying no: For the coming week in Baton Rouge, police won’t settle for an answer of “no” when a suspected impaired driver is asked for a breath test. The Associated Press reports drivers can legally refuse a breath test. But the Capital Region Transportation Safety Coalition says that, from today until next Friday, police and deputies will respond by getting a warrant for a blood test. Judges will be on call 24 hours to provide such warrants. The group said in a news release Thursday that city police, East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies and Louisiana State Police will all participate in the week-long “no refusal” enforcement. It says 46% of Louisiana’s traffic fatalities involve intoxication.
Four more: This week, the Louisiana Department of Health has confirmed four additional cases of the Zika virus, The Shreveport Times reports. As in all of the other cases in Louisiana, the patients traveled to regions in the Americas with ongoing Zika transmission and sought medical care in Louisiana after returning, where tests confirmed the viral infection. This brings the total to 23 cases of travel-associated Zika infections confirmed in Louisiana. Although the state of Florida has reported several locally transmitted cases in that state, this is not the situation in Louisiana. Read the full story.
