For sale: Entergy says it plans to sell its Vermont Yankee nuclear plant to subsidiaries of the New York-based NorthStar Group Services for an undisclosed amount. NorthStar is a cleanup company that specializes in remediation work. The deal will permit the Vermont site to be decommissioned by 2030 instead of 2075 as Entergy originally planned. “By accelerating decommissioning, we are fulfilling a commitment we made in 2013 to decommission Vermont Yankee as soon as reasonably possible,” says Bill Mohl, Entergy Wholesale Commodities president, in a news release. “Decommissioning and site restoration, drawing on NorthStar’s expertise, will provide economic development for the region.” According to a news release, the deal is expected to close by the end of 2018.
