Details: Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group paid $325,000 to acquire North Point Family Health in Central, according to a record of the transition filed Tuesday with the East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court. The clinic is located at 18901 Greenwell Springs Road. Our Lady of the Lake announced the acquisition on Monday. The clinic is now operating as Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group North Point. The clinic’s two doctors, Herschel B. Dean and Robert K. Dean, two physician assistants, two nurse practitioners and more than 25 team members are now part of Our Lady of the Lake’s network.
Big response: A Care2 petition started by a 16-year-old girl from Baton Rouge that asks the federal government to oversee BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo already has more than 130,000 signatures. The girl, Kerregan Layne, is asking the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to investigate why 21 animals have died in the zoo this year. “Questions have been raised by hundreds of citizens about the competency of the animals’ caregivers, and the adequacy of the zoo officials, who are supposed to be monitoring and regulating the care of the creatures in the zoo and maintaining the physical structures,” Layne writes. Staying put: The Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged on Wednesday but says near-term risks to the U.S. economic outlook had diminished, opening the door to a resumption of monetary policy tightening this year. Reuters reports the U.S. central bank says the economy had expanded at a moderate rate and job gains were strong in June. It adds that household spending also had been “growing strongly,” and pointed to an increase in labor utilization. While Fed policymakers say they continued to closely monitor inflation data and global economic and financial developments, they indicated less worry about possible shocks that could push the U.S. economy off course.
