Motivated: Former LSU basketball coach Dale Brown will unveil his latest book, Getting Over the 4 Hurdles of Life, on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at an invite-only event in the Lod Cook Conference Center at LSU. The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m., with the book to be unveiled at 6:30 p.m. The 160-page hardcover book aims to show people ways to get past the obstacles, or hurdles, blocking their paths to success, happiness and peace of mind. Four of the most common hurdles identified by Brown are: “I can’t / You can’t,” past failures or fear of failure, handicaps and lack of self-knowledge. Former LSU and NBA star Shaquille O’Neal has penned the book’s introduction. Although the public is not invited to the launch event at LSU, a spokesperson for Brown’s publisher, Acadian House Publishing, says public book signings in Baton Rouge will be announced soon.

Eye-catching: A poll conducted by ESPN.com has ranked the LSU Lady Tigers basketball team No. 21 on the website’s list of the top 25 “teams to watch” during the during the 2011-12 season. The poll featured votes by ESPN.com columnists Mechelle Voepel, Graham Hays, Charlie Crčme and Melanie Jackson. Baylor is ranked first in the top 25, followed by Notre Dame, Tennessee, Stanford and Texas A&M. The Lady Tigers open the season at Wichita State on Monday under new head coach Nikki Caldwell. The Lady Tigers are also ranked No. 21 in the Associated Press preseason poll and 22nd in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ poll. Caldwell and the Lady Tigers’ new up-tempo style of play was on full display in an exhibition game last week as LSU cruised past Xavier of Louisiana, 102-42.

Above the pack: Republican presidential candidate and former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer is featured in a new video by late-night comedian Stephen Colbert slamming the influence funding that Super PACs have on politics. Colbert has created his own Super PAC called Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow, to get his point across. See the Roemer video, here.
