Departing: Cheniere Energy Partners announced today that its first commissioning cargo of liquefied natural gas from its Sabine Pass liquefaction project in Cameron Parish will depart soon. The cargo is loading on the LNG carrier Asia Vision, chartered by Cheniere Marketing LLC, and will be heading to Brazil, according to a company news release. “This historic event opens a new chapter for the country in energy trade and is a significant milestone for Cheniere as we prepare Train 1 for commercial operations,” says Neal Shear, board chairman and interim CEO of Cheniere, in a statement. Reaching out: A national coalition of private companies and organizations working to end U.S. travel and trade embargoes against Cuba will launch its Louisiana State Council with a panel discussion from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Old Governor’s Mansion, 502 North Boulevard. Called Engage Cuba, the bipartisan coalition works to mobilize and coalesce American businesses, citizens and nonprofits to support the U.S.-Cuba normalization process and champion legislation to loosen travel restrictions to the island. The panel discussion will focus on how Louisiana’s agriculture and port sectors would benefit from the lifting of trade and travel embargoes. Engage Cuba President James Williams will moderate. Panelists include Ports Association of Louisiana Director Joe Accardo and Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain.
Open for traffic: City-parish officials will celebrate the completion of the $7.5 million Fairchild-Badley Improvements Project on Thursday. A ribbon cutting for the project, which is a part of the city’s Green Light Plan, will take place at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 1565 Curtis St. The project involved replacing a narrow, two-lane roadway from Scenic Highway to Veterans Memorial Boulevard with a two-lane, curb and gutter roadway, according to a news release. Crews also made improvements to 600 feet of Elm Grove Garden Drive, from Fairchild-Badley Road at the Elm Grove Garden Drive intersection north to the Elm Grove bridge.
