On the move: Three Baton Rouge attorneys are leaving the Jones Walker law firm to establish a local office for the New Orleans-based Fishman Haygood law firm. The new office will be led by real estate development attorney Charles Landry, who had been with Jones Walker for 19 years. Fishman Haygood says Louis Quinn Jr. and Scott Chenevert will join Landry in making the move from Jones Walker and helping establish its first Baton Rouge office. Quinn was head of Jones Walker’s real estate practice group, Fishman Haygood says, and Chenevert was a partner in the firm’s corporate and securities practice group. They officially will join Fishman Haygood on Feb. 1. The Fishman Haygood office reportedly will be in the same building at 8555 United Plaza Blvd. where the Jones Walker office is located.
On board: A former LSU basketball star and a state senator’s wife are among four new appointees to the state’s top higher education policy board announced by the governor’s office Wednesday. The Associated Press reports Collis Temple III of Baton Rouge and Claudia Adley, wife of state Sen. Robert Adley, R-Benton, will join two other appointees in replacing members of the Board of Regents, including board Chairman Clinton “Bubba” Raspberry, whose terms had expired. Jindal also appointed Chris Bollinger of Lockport, former president of Bollinger Shipyards; and William Gray Stream of Lake Charles, president of Matilda Stream Management. Jindal also appointed new members to the governing boards for the University of Louisiana System and the Southern University System. Among them, Baton Rouge doctor Rani Whitfield now will sit on the Southern board. Read the full story.
A place to call home: Jackson Parish, whose residents have had to travel outside their boundaries to access Louisiana Delta Community College, soon will have its own campus. Delta Chancellor Barbara Hanson tells The News-Star of Monroe the project was made possible through a 2013 law handled by hometown state Rep. Jim Fannin, R-Jonesboro, who is chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. She says the law allowed for the sale of more than $251 million in bonds to provide 29 community and technical college facility projects throughout the state. She says the Jackson Parish campus will be located in a former factory in Jonesboro following a $3 million renovation. Read the full story.
