On the move: Route enhancements to several of the Capital Area Transit System’s most popular routes—made possible by the elimination of two routes in December—will go into effect on Sunday. CATS says in a news release that performance will be improved with additional bus hours or buses on four routes serving Government Street/Jefferson Highway; Perkins Road/ Mall of Louisiana; Highland Road; and Airline Highway/Southern University. CATS also says rerouting and other efforts to improve efficiency will be implemented on four other routes: Capitol Park Shuttle; LSU/Cortana Mall; Florida Boulevard; and Florida Boulevard limited. CATS has complete details on the route adjustments.
The big deal: A technology invented by faculty at LSU Health New Orleans is part of the $90 million deal by global pharmaceutical firm Allergan to acquire clinical stage pharmaceutical company Anterios, which licensed an LSU Health-patented technology in 2008 and in which LSU Health New Orleans held equity. Due to the license agreement, LSU Health New Orleans says in a news release that it has received a mix of equity and royalties, and may also potentially receive milestone payments. The technology, created by Drs. Ann Tilton, Dana Suskind and Mary Caire at LSU Health New Orleans, is for the use of topical botulinum toxin to treat or prevent acne. The deal for Anterios provides that Allergan, which last year agreed to merge with Pfizer Inc. to create the biggest pharmaceutical company in the world, will pay Anterios $90 million plus potential development and commercial milestone payments.
