For the record: Richard Leibowitz, who serves as bond counsel to CATS, wants it perfectly understood that he was the one who failed at a July 17 board meeting to propose the adoption of a second resolution for the $3 million bond that will keep buses running through the end of the year. “The cause of the special meeting (Monday) was my failure to request that the final approval of the financing be placed on the July 17, 2012, agenda,” says Leibowitz in a letter sent to Business Report today. The CATS board finalized the bond at Monday’s meeting, and says it will be paid off with the new 10.6-mill property tax that goes into effect in December.

That happy cat: A day after Mike VI celebrated his 7th birthday, LSU today announced plans to improve the front plaza in front of the live mascot’s Tiger Habitat on campus. The project will begin Wednesday, and will include the addition of decorative paving, new lighting and landscaping, as well as drainage improvements. The project is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 30. Mike’s visitors will still have access to the upper plaza and Tiger Habitat during construction. Privately raised funds through the Tiger Athletic Foundation will pay for the project.
