The race is on: Rep. Steve Carter, R-Baton Rouge, will have at least one challenger in his re-election run for the House District 68 seat. Baton Rouge native and LSU alum Robert Cade Cipriano, a Republican, announced his candidacy today. In a press release, Cipriano says he’s an active advocate within the pro-life community and “will always be a steadfast defender of religious liberty and Second Amendment rights.” It is Cipriano’s first run for public office, but he says he has experience working for and consulting campaigns. He works for First International Resources, a communications firm. Cipriano is the only candidate to declare a run against Carter so far. Qualifying takes place in early September, with the primary set for Oct. 24 and general election on Nov. 21.

Top tacos: Tabelog, a self-described “online community for foodies, by foodies,” has ranked The Rum House—which has locations in New Orleans and Baton Rouge—as having the best tacos in America. “Their menu uses all the best flavors of the islands to create mouth watering tacos you can’t find anywhere else,” the website says of The Rum House. “The top sellers here are the Calypso Beef with lime cream, the Chili Glazed Shrimp with fried shrimp and rum chili glaze, and the Jerk Chicken with mango Salsa.” Tabelog’s top 11 tacos in America list includes restaurants and food trucks from across the country. Setting the table: Louisiana Economic Development has created a new program called Executive Roundtable with stakeholders including the Louisiana Small Business Development Center to help second-stage businesses reach the next mark in their company. LED says the program provides a structured and confidential environment for executives to share best practices and resolve their business challenges. Members learn to make better decisions, improve communication skills and build valuable relationships. The program’s target is to reach a good mix of people in non-competing industries. The Entrepreneurs Organization, a group that enables entrepreneurs to learn and grow from each other, facilitates the program in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, while Cohab, a hub for creative business, facilitates the program in Shreveport.
