By the numbers: In December, 11,000 businesses in the Baton Rouge metro area will be among 4 million American businesses that will receive 2012 Economic Census forms. Responses to the questionnaire are required by law, and need to be returned no later than Feb. 12, 2013. The info gathered will be included in the Economic Census that is completed every five years, serving as a comprehensive portrait of American businesses from the national to local level. The forms won’t hit mailboxes until mid December, but business owners can check out a website here for more details in the meantime.

A feminine touch: The wife of GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney was in Shreveport today for a GOP fundraising event, KSLA-TV reports. Ann Romney arrived shortly after 11 a.m. at the Shreveport Downtown Airport from Dallas to attend a private fundraising event at the Shreveport Club, which was not open to the media. Press secretary Sarah Haley says Romney is a big part of her husband’s campaign because “she has the ability to relate to so many people out there. She’s endured multiple sclerosis and breast cancer and a lot of health issues.”

Grinding out votes: Community Coffee Co. is asking its customers to go to its polls and cast a vote for their favorite coffee blend. Five Community blends are on the ballot: Five Star Hotel Blend, Colombia Classico, Café Special, Breakfast Blend and Signature Blend Dark Roast. If you’re favorite isn’t on the ballot, don’t worry, there’s also a write-in option. Community Coffee will be traveling the state in its trolley, visiting grocery stores and family-friendly events, where voting will take place via iPads. You can track the trolley here, or cast your vote online here. The winning blend will be announced Nov. 3.
