Summer’s a-comin’: BREC says it will open splash pads at City-Brooks, Forest and Greenwood Community parks on Monday, March 4, for the upcoming summer season. Splash pads will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through October. Splash pads use ground nozzles to create showers for water play and are said to have no standing water.
Walk on: Shoefflé, a shoe and accessory boutique, closed the doors of its location at 257 Lee Drive for the last time Saturday. The store, which has been at the Lee Drive location for about a year and was previously at Towne Center, is being consolidated with two other locations, in New Orleans and Covington.
Under the knife: The White House on Sunday released a state-by-state report on the effects of automatic spending cuts—called sequestration—that will go into effect Friday if a deal is not reached by Congress and President Barack Obama. For Louisiana, sequestration would mean, among other things: a nearly $26 million hit to teachers and schools, $2.5 million in lost environmental funding, 7,000 Department of Defense employee furloughs, and more.
