Long and winding road: Baton Rouge Area Chamber CEO Adam Knapp sent a letter out to BRAC investors today urging them to submit comments on the controversial and long-debated highway proposed to loop around Baton Rouge. An environmental impact study is currently being prepared to assess the best way to proceed with the project, and the public comment period is open through Jan. 9. You can download a comment form here, and learn more about the project by visiting a website devoted to it here. “Please participate in this crucial process. It is important for everyone to give their input so this road can serve the best interest of our community,” Knapp says in his letter.
Texas two-step: Gov. Bobby Jindal was spending the last hours leading to the Iowa caucuses in the state making his pitch for Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s candidacy for the GOP nomination. Jindal headed to Iowa Monday, and his staffers say he was traveling to multiple campaign stops with Perry on Monday and today in hopes of boosting Perry’s support in the state. The Iowa caucuses tonight are the first ballots cast of the 2012 presidential race and will help determine which Republican candidate will be the party nominee to challenge President Barack Obama. Jindal was last in Iowa in late December, also to stump for Perry.
The final cut: The Belle of Baton Rouge downtown casino will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday to celebrate completion of a $7 million renovation that began in November. Casino General Manager Jeff Michie, Downtown Development District Director Davis Rhorer and Mayor Kip Holden are all scheduled to attend.
