Blue moon of Kentucky: The Baton Rouge Area Chamber today released a preliminary itinerary for the upcoming Canvas Workshop in Louisville, March 25-27. Among the speakers are Michael McCallister, president and CEO of Humana; Bill Samuels, Maker’s Mark brand ambassador and retired president; and Jerry Abramson, lieutenant governor of Kentucky and former mayor of Louisville. Several panel presentations are planned covering topics such as transit, talent development, innovation and regionalism. Other activities currently include a tour of the Kentucky Derby Museum, the Ali Museum and the Louisville Science Museum. The full preliminary itinerary can be found on the Canvas Workshop website here. You’ve got until March 16 to register to be a part of the delegation of Baton Rouge business and community leaders who are visiting Louisville. Cost of the trip is $2,200, which includes hotels and a charter flight. Registration is also available at the workshop website.
Texas operators tapped: Louisiana State Fair officials say they’re going with a new ride operator this year, but deny the move is due to an accident in November that trapped a 4-year-old under a ride. State Fair of Louisiana General Manager Chris Giordano says Crabtree Amusements—a family-owned ride operation company from Staples, Texas—has been awarded a contract to operate the amusement rides. The company will replace Lowery Carnival Company, which had held the fair contract since 2005. The 4-year-old injured at last year’s fair spent months recovering in a hospital. KSLA-TV in Shreveport reports the existence of a lawsuit against the State Fair of Louisiana, Lowery, the individual ride operator and Red River Head Start. This year’s state fair opens in October.
Virtual memory lane: A new website is one of the tools Loyola University in New Orleans is using to celebrate its 100th anniversary. A Loyola news release says the site was developed over the last four months by the Web communications team in Loyola’s Office of Marketing and Communications. Alumni contributed with written and recorded memories of their experiences at Loyola. The site also includes photos from the yearbook collection in the J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe Library. The site—which you can check out here—also includes official event information related to the centennial.
