One of four students to get honor: Justin Moore, who recently graduated from Baton Rouge Magnet High, is one of four students nationwide to be awarded ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarships. The $5,000 scholarships are presented to black and Hispanic students who plan to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering or math. Moore plans to go to Yale University and study to be a neurosurgeon. More than 300 students applied for the scholarships.

Back in business: Alon Refining says it is restarting its Krotz Springs refinery, which was shut down in mid-May because of concerns about flooding caused by the opening of the Morganza Spillway. Alon officials say the refinery should be in full operation within the next few weeks. When the spillway was opened to lower the Mississippi River, there were concerns the floodwaters could approach the refinery. But Alon officials say that was never the case. Plant workers used the downtime to complete maintenance projects that had been planned for later this summer. Alon refines 83,000 barrels of crude oil a day at the Krotz Springs facility.

Correction
A story in Wednesday’s Daily Report AM incorrectly stated where Albert Schwartzberg and his son, Harris Schwartzberg, live. The two men live in New York. They own a dozen nursing home and assisted living facilities in Louisiana and Texas, including several in Baton Rouge. Business Report regrets the error.
