Baby talk: Expectant and new mothers will now have access to 24-hour assessment and emergency care at Baton Rouge General’s Birth Center thanks to an agreement with South Carolina-based Ob Hospitalist Group. Under the agreement, OBHG hospitalists will be available at all times in the hospital, providing care in emergencies when the mother’s physician is unavailable, supporting high-risk pregnancy patients and caring for those who do not have an obstetrician. “Since last year, BRG physicians have seen a significant increase in deliveries,” says BRG President and CEO Mark Slyter in a prepared statement. “As we continue to grow, hospitalists are an important safety net for patients and OB/GYNs.” Baton Rouge General has more details on today’s announcement.
By the numbers: East Baton Rouge Parish ranks second in the state among all 64 parishes for life insurance payouts and inheritance collected, according to a study by a financial planning and advising website. SmartAsset.com looked at data from wealth transfers during estate settlements and life insurance payouts along with life insurance coverage rates and statewide insurance payouts. The average life insurance payout in East Baton Rouge is slightly under $420,000, according to the report, while the average inheritance is slightly more than $471,000. Those numbers place the parish second in the state behind Jefferson Parish and 190th in the nation. Los Angeles County came in first nationally in both categories, with the average life insurance payout of $8.67 million and average inheritance of $9 million. Bringing it all back home: The National Association of Home Builders Remodelers has named Baton Rouge’s John G. Guillory as the group’s “Remodeler of the Month” for September. Guillory, the founder and owner of Custom Home Designs, was chosen for the award by NAHB Remodelers staff and leadership, and “exemplifies the best in the remodeling industry,” the group says in a news release. Guillory is a member of the Capital Region Builders Association and was named the 2014 Remodelers Council of Greater Baton Rouge Member of the Year. The NAHB Remodeler of the Month award is awarded to remodelers “who stand out because of recent quality work, customer service, community involvement and dedication to furthering the industry.”
