On the dotted line: Baton Rouge-based Kinetix Solutions, a specialty chemical supply and technical consulting firm, has been tapped by BASF Corp. to sell the chemical giant’s gas treatment solvents for the ammonia and syngas industries. Financial terms of the distribution agreement were not disclosed in an announcement released today. Kinetix will sell the solvents in the United States, as well as in Trinidad & Tobago.
Market forces: A Toronto-based company that bills itself as the online marketplace for people to buy and sell with neighbors—sort of an online garage sale—is expanding its footprint in south Louisiana. VarageSale announced today it launched a version of its online platform and app for Baton Rouge, Denham Springs and Central, and two areas of New Orleans. “We were pulled into south Louisiana because we’ve been really successful in neighboring areas. For example, our Kenner/Metairie community boasts over 8,000 active members who have posted more than 250,000 items to date,” says co-founder Tami Zuckerman in a press release. VarageSale has more than 450 communities in its network.
Past, present and future: What’s old is new again when it comes to the Cotton Valley sands formation in north Louisiana. The Shreveport Times reports the old field that’s produced natural gas since the 1940s and ’50s is opening new opportunities for drilling for operators in Caddo, DeSoto and Lincoln parishes who are looking for more economical ways to extract the resources during the stagnant energy market. The weekly rig report on April 24 listed 40 land rigs drilling onshore in Louisiana; 28 of those are in northwest Louisiana, and 17 of the 28 are drilling in the Cotton Valley formation.
