Working for a living: Louisiana’s non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in December was down over the year in all 64 parishes, according to federal Bureau of Labor Statistics released today. And though they all were down compared to the year previous, December unemployment rates in all of the state’s eight metro areas were up from November. In Baton Rouge, the December unemployment rate was at 5.4%. The Louisiana Workforce Commission has more details on the figures released today here.

Two to tango: The Louisiana High School Athletic Association member principals today passed a proposal to split schools into “select” and “non-select” playoff brackets. The regular season schedules and districts will remain the same, but schools that are able to select portions of their student-body from outside their normal attendance zones will play in two separate divisions. Class 1A-2A schools that are deemed “select” will compete for the same championships in the LHSAA for football, reports the The (Monroe) News-Star, while 3A-5A schools will make up the other division. Public schools and “non-select” schools will continue to compete in five nearly equal divisions.

Capitol moves: PAR announced today it has begun taking orders for its “PAR Guide to the 2013 Louisiana Legislature.” The pocket-sized booklet is filled with information about Louisiana’s legislators, state elected officials, and agencies. Order forms and pricing details can be found here. Guides will be shipped in mid-March. PAR also says it will begin selling 2013 Guide to the Legislature apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices later this spring.
