On air: A Baton Rouge contractor will make his third appearance on the Travel Channel’s Hotel Impossible next week. The show features host Anthony Melchiorri and his team quickly revamping struggling hotels on a tight budget. Earlier this year, they called on Baton Rouge’s Buddy Roussel, owner of SoundTITE Solutions, to help eliminate noise coming through the windows at a small hotel on Fire Island, New York. SoundTITE Solutions specializes in the installment of interior mounted, magnet sealing acrylic window covers that block out noise without changing the way the window looks. Roussel was previously featured on the show last year and in 2014. The new episode will air at 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31.
Under the microscope: In an effort to determine if the August flood affected private water wells and the effectiveness of disinfection protocols, LSU Health New Orleans and Virginia Tech researchers are offering free water well testing to flood-impacted Louisiana homeowners. Virginia Tech researcher Kelsey Pieper tells The Associated Press well-owners will be mailed the results of tests for metals and coliform bacteria. Any homeowner with a private well in an area affected by the flood is eligible to receive one of 150 test kits. LSU researcher Adrienne Katner says about 50 kits had been reserved by Tuesday. To reserve a kit, or learn more about participating in the study, email welltesting@lsuhsc.edu or call (504) 568-5942. Kits that are not reserved will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 15710 La. 16, and First Baptist Church, 16735 La. 16, in French Settlement.
