Big money: Baton Rouge’s three casinos took in more than $24 million in October, a 13% increase in winnings from the same month last year. According to figures released by State Police on Thursday, L’Auberge Hotel and Casino had nearly $14 million in winnings, followed by Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge with $5.5 million and the Belle of Baton Rouge at just over $5 million. All three casinos in October eclipsed their September winnings by a combined total of $3 million. Across the state, casino and racetrack slot winnings increased nearly 11% over the October 2014 total, jumping from $194.6 million to $215.7 million. Lake Charles, the state’s largest casino market, saw its winnings go up 31%, while the Opelousas market dropped 5.1% to $6.7 million. See the full numbers.
Clinic for women: Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group this week opened a clinic offering comprehensive care for women 18 and older, including breast cancer and cardiovascular screenings. The clinic, Primary Care for Women, also offers preventive healthcare, comprehensive physical exams, dietary services, care for chronic illnesses and women’s wellness screenings. Primary Care for Women is staffed by two LSU grads, Drs. Jeri Johnson and Katherine Pearce, both of whom are members of the American College of Physicians. The clinic is located in the O’Donovan Medical Plaza at 5131 O’Donovan Drive, Suite 201.
Road closures: North Street will be closed Monday from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. for filming of Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher 2: Never Go Back. Baton Rouge police will block traffic in the 100, 200, 300 and 400 blocks of North Street before, during and after the closure. Over the weekend, “no parking” signs will be placed along portions of North, Third and Fourth streets, and the Capitol side of Spanish Town Road until 8 p.m. Monday, and along parts of North and Lafayette streets until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
