Foreign relations: Baton Rouge business leaders will brief Michael Scuse, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s undersecretary for Farm and Foreign Agriculture Service, on how the United State’s relationship with Cuba affects the local economy this week. The briefing will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, 5825 Florida Blvd. According to a news release, Scuse also will discuss President Barack Obama’s efforts to restore economic and diplomatic relations with Cuba. He also will discuss opportunities for U.S. manufacturing and agricultural companies to expand.

It’s a deal: Mumbai-based Dorf Ketal Chemicals has acquired Flow-Chem Technologies, a limited liability company based in Rayne, Louisiana, according to a news release. Flow Technologies is a speciality oilfield chemical provider that operates across Gulf Coast and U.S. onshore markets, with blending facilities in Rayne and Pleasanton, Texas, as well as multiple warehouses. Dorf Ketal is a provider of formulated speciality chemicals to upstream and downstream oil and gas markets. The company has operations in China, the Asia Pacific, Europe, South America and North America. Financial details were not disclosed. Read the full news release.

Under contract: CB&I has been awarded an approximately $60 million contract from Zakum Development Co., or ZADCO, to refurbish two crude oil storage tanks in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. “CB&I is pleased to be selected again by ZADCO to refurbish storage tanks on Zirku Island,” says Luke Scorsone, president of CB&I’s fabrication services operating group, in a prepared statement. “This award builds on our long-standing relationship with ZADCO and underlines CB&I’s expertise in storage solutions.” CB&I has numerous offices throughout Louisiana, including in Baton Rouge.
