It’s a family affair: A researcher and doctoral candidate at the LSU School of Human Resource Education and Workforce Development is looking for Baton Rouge area family-owned businesses to partake in a survey about succession planning. Steven Perret is the principal investigator and William Richardson of the LSU AgCenter is co-investigator. Perret is studying how selected aspects of succession planning and demographic characteristics contribute to the success of succession plans for south Louisiana family-owned businesses. In the bank: The Louisiana Mineral and Energy Board says it collected $476,440 in bonus revenue for the state during its September lease sale conducted on Wednesday in Baton Rouge. Since the start of the fiscal year on July 1, the board has netted roughly $3.5 million through the monthly lease sales. Last fiscal year the board collected about $14 million in lease sales, as well as $431.9 million in royalties. At this month’s lease sale, the board awarded 10 leases covering 1,598 acres, with nominated tracts covering just over 54,402 acres. The leased land is located in Allen, DeSoto, Iberia and Terrebonne parishes.

Bookends: The Main Library at Goodwood has been selected as a national award-winner in Library Journal magazine’s 2015 New Landmark Libraries program. The three-story, 126,000-square-foot building was designed by the Library Design Collaborative, a joint venture of Dewberry, Cockfield Jackson Architects, and Tipton Associates. Since opening in January 2014, the $35.8 million library has also been recognized with the Members’ Choice Award from the Baton Rouge chapter of the American Institute of Architects and selected as Engineering News-Record magazine’s “Best Government/Public Buildings Project” and “Project of the Year” for the five-state region encompassing Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi and Oklahoma.
