Showtime: Baton Rouge will be featured as a kid-friendly vacation destination on Designing Spaces, a home improvement show on Lifetime Television, Visit Baton Rouge announced today. The show is set to air at 6:30 a.m. Thursday. During the segment, Shannon Hurst Lane—a mother, Baton Rouge native and Louisiana-based travel writer—takes viewers around town to several fun and interactive attractions for all ages, including the Rural Life Museum, the USS KIDD, the State Capitol, and Capitol Park Museum.
Better safe than sorry: The Louisiana Workforce Commission announced today the formation of a workplace safety task force designed to “further strengthen the state’s safety culture.” The task force is set to meet for the first time Wednesday morning in Baton Rouge. The meeting is open to the public and will take place at the offices of the Louisiana Department of Insurance, 1702 N. Third St., from 9 a.m. to noon. LWC has more details on the task force here.
Helmet to helmet: Louisiana’s high school leaders are clashing over new plans for football playoffs, which will separate traditional public school football playoffs from those held by private, magnet and charter schools. The Associated Press reports leaders of the private and charter schools say the change is a form of segregation that undercuts the state’s move toward giving parents educational choice. The critics also reportedly say the split playoff system tells students that if they don’t win, they can just change the rules to favor them. Lawmakers created a special high school athletics committee to review the recent Louisiana High School Athletic Association decision.
