Hold that tiger: Auburn Coach Gene Chizik says sophomore quarterback Clint Moseley is replacing Barrett Trotter for Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. game at LSU. Trotter had started the first seven games for 19th-ranked Auburn, but was replaced by Moseley in the second half of the Tigers’ win over Florida last week. Moseley has attempted only nine career passes, completing four of them. Chizik says he and Moseley talked for about 90 minutes a few weeks ago about the backup’s situation and the importance of being ready. Since then, Chizik says, “He’s really tried to elevate his game in terms of really preparing like a starter.” This marks the third straight week LSU will face a team with a new starting quarterback. Florida and Tennessee had to switch starters after injuries the week before their games against LSU.
The big chill: A cold front will move through the Capital Region this afternoon, bringing strong winds and much colder temperatures to the area. In the wake of the front, winds will shift to the northwest and increase late this afternoon and evening. Sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph could occur south of Lake Pontchartrain and across coastal areas of southeast Louisiana. Temperatures will continue to drop this afternoon, with a low tonight of around 46 in Baton Rouge and a north wind between 10 and 15 mph. The forecast for Wednesday calls for clear skies, with a high near 67 and a low around 40. Wave goodbye: Tulane’s athletic director, Rick Dickson, says head football coach Bob Toledo has resigned. Former offensive line coach Mark Hutson has been named interim coach for Tulane’s remaining six games. Hutson was the interim head coach at Eastern Illinois in 2006. The 65-year-old Toledo, a former head coach at UCLA, took over at Tulane in 2007, the Green Wave’s second season back in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Although he was 13-35 in his first four years, Toledo received a two-year extension after last season in the hope that his recruiting efforts would pay off with a winning season. Tulane, however, is off to a 2-5 start that has included lopsided losses to Tulsa, Duke, Army and UTEP. Tulane plays its homecoming game this Saturday against Memphis.
