Snuffed out: The Alexandria City Council on Tuesday passed an amended version of an expanded smoking ordinance that will prevent smoking at bars and gaming establishments in the city limits, as well as within 25 feet of city property and athletic arenas and ballparks. The ordinance will go into effect Jan. 2, 2012. Read more about the new law in the Alexandria Town Talk here.

Super deal: Though there’s been no official word on what the naming rights deal struck between the Superdome and Mercedes-Benz is worth, The Times-Picayune reports its sources are pegging the value of the 10-year deal somewhere between $50 million and $60 million. The deal will also reportedly eliminate the possibility of the state’s paying direct subsidies to the Saints. Read more here.
