Will expand company’s portfolio: Albemarle Corporation says it has acquired Catilin Inc., an Ames, Iowa, company that develops biofuel catalysts. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Baton Rouge-based Albemarle says it will benefit from Catilin’s research and development. Its products will be offered along with GoBio, Albemarle’s portfolio of biomass conversion products.
New Orleans company makes deal: Pan-American Life Insurance Group has acquired Massachusetts-based GreenWood International Insurance Services. A price was not disclosed by New Orleans-based Pan-American, which specializes in insurance and financial services in Latin America. GreenWood primarily offers various types of insurance to employers with fewer than 1,000 employees. Pan-American says the acquisition will enable it to expand in the United States.
