In the running: Three Baton Rouge businessmen are among 40 from the Gulf Coast that are up for the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2015 award for the region. EY is also known as Ernst & Young Global Limited, a multinational professional services firm headquartered in London. Local professionals up for the award are: Jay Campbell Jr., president and CEO of Associated Grocers; Ed Tinsley, CEO of Bernhard Energy; and Sean Reilly, CEO Of Lamar Advertising Co. They were selected as finalists for the award by a panel of independent judges. Award winners will be announced at a special gala on June 25 in Houston. Head of the class: A new ranking of Louisiana’s best public high schools places two Baton Rouge campuses among the top 10. The ranking by NIche.com, a Pittsburgh-based rankings and reviews website, says Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans is the state’s best. Baton Rouge Magnet High School is ranked No. 2; while Zachary High School is No. 5 and Central High School is No. 9. The website’s list ranks 14,431 U.S. high schools “based on dozens of key statistics and 4.6 million opinions from 280,000 students and parents. See the complete rankings.
The take: The Louisiana Lottery Corp. says a roughly 13% increase in scratch-off lottery ticket sales over the past year helped boost its fiscal year third quarter revenue by 10.3% to $129,204,789, compared to the same quarter last year. Of the quarterly revenue, which covers January through March, 35%—or about $45.2 million—is by law transferred to the state treasury and dedicated to K-12 education.
