State and elected officials in Livingston Parish are announcing at this hour that Epic Piping, a newly created pipe fabrication company, will invest more than $45 million to develop a 70-acre site near the intersection of Interstate 12 and La. 63 in Satsuma that is expected to employ more than 500 people over the next several years.
The company, which also has a fabrication facility under development in San Marcos, Texas, is being financed at least in part by Bernhard Capital Partners, the private equity firm created by Jim Bernhard, founder and former CEO of The Shaw Group. Epic’s executive leadership team also consists of several former top executives from The Shaw Group’s pipe fabrication division.
Bernhard retired from The Shaw Group in 2013, after the company was acquired by CB&I. Epic President of Domestic Fabrication Kent Shepherd says the company hopes to break ground on the new facility in the next couple of months and be up and running by early 2016.
