A five-year, $20 million federal grant to support biomedical research has been awarded to a collaboration of eight Louisiana higher education, research and health care institutions. The grant, which comes from the National Institutes of Health, will be used to fund the Louisiana Clinical and Translational Science Center, an initiative led by Pennington Biomedical Research Center. The center will use the grant to fund infrastructure and chronic disease research across academic institutions in the state. William Cefalu, principal investigator at the center, says the infrastructure will help expand clinical trials among the eight institutions that make up the science center. Cefalu says the grant will be a “game changer” for the state in creating a network of medical research partners. Read Daily Report PM for additional details.
